OMV Petrom begins production of a product to reduce diesel emissions – Chemical Engineering

November 21, 2022 | By Mary Bailey

OMV Petrom SA (Bucharest, Romania) has started production of AdBlue, an important product for reducing diesel engine emissions. At the first stage, AdBlue will be sold at OMV and Petrom gas stations, and from next year – also in other networks.

In this way, the company meets the growing demand for this product against the background of the increase in the number of commercial vehicles in Romania.

Radu Capreu, member of the board responsible for recycling and marketing: “Starting production of AdBlue was a priority for us, as we expect the demand for this product to increase. We expect the demand for AdBlue in the Romanian market to grow by more than 30% by 2027 compared to this year to a level of around 130 million liters.”

AdBlue is a standard product used in modern diesel engines. It consists of about 1/3 urea and 2/3 demineralized water. The new production facilities are located in the south of Bucharest, and the investment required for the implementation of the project was about 800,000 euros.
