Aker secures contract extension for Johan Sverdrup oil field

Norwegian engineering firm Aker solutions secured a maintenance and modification (M&M) contract extension for Johan Sverdrup oil field offshore from Norway.

The company will be responsible for ensuring coordination and maximum synergy in ongoing project activities.

The contract has been extended under the current framework agreement, which runs until February 2026.

Aker solutions provides M&M services for Equinorfield named after Johan Sverdrup, which has been in operation since its commissioning in 2019.

The firm said the contract could be valued at between 0.5 billion nankr ($48.8 million) and 1.5 billion nankr ($146.5 million).

Aker M&M Head of Solutions and Business Electrification Paal Eikeset said: “We are delighted to continue our long-term collaboration with Equinor on the Johan Sverdrup field, the third largest on the Norwegian continental shelf.

“Aker Solution has already been actively involved in all stages, from early design to construction and project execution, as well as connection and commissioning of this giant field.

“Continuity of personnel and systematic knowledge are essential to provide the best and safest maintenance and modification services.”

Aker Solutions plans to manage the contract work from Stavanger, Norway, while assembly is to take place at the Egersund plant.

In a press statement, the company said it will take orders at the “lower end of a significant range” in the electrification, maintenance and modification segment.

It is planned to receive orders in the fourth quarter of this year.

Equinor holds a 42.6% stake in the Johan Sverdrup field, while other partners, including Lundin Norway (20%), Five (17.36%), Aker BP (11.5733%) and TotalEnergies (8.44%).

The Johan Sverdrup field, located in the Utsira High area of ​​the North Sea, is expected to produce 2.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

The estimated term of its operation will be more than 50 years.
