MACON, Ga. — The Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) is now accepting applications for the 2023 Middle School and High School Art Bookmark Contest. Students who submit their artwork have a chance to win great cash prizes!

The GFB High School Bookmark Contest is open to all public, private, and homeschooled sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students throughout the state. The 10 area GFB bookmark contest winners will receive $100 each and compete for a $150 state prize. County Farm Bureaus may also offer prizes to their local winners.

The GFB High School Art Contest is open to all ninth through twelfth grade students enrolled in public, private, and home schools. The winners of the GFB District 10 Art Competition will receive a cash prize of US$100. Winners of GFB’s 10 district art contests will compete for a $250 state prize. One state runner-up in the art contest will receive $150 in cash. County Farm Bureaus may also offer prizes to their local winners.

Middle school students will be given a blank bookmark and asked to draw a picture that represents some aspect of Georgia’s agriculture. Students can use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to create a bookmark that illustrates agriculture.

High school students participating in the art competition must draw a scene depicting Georgia’s agriculture. Artwork submitted for the High School Art Contest must be on 8.5″ x 11″ white paper in black, white, and gray. Contestants may use a variety of media to create their artwork, including graphite, charcoal, pastel, chalk, colored pencil, pen and ink, ballpoint pen, or mixed media suitable for print.

Entries for both contests will be judged on 1) how well they represent contemporary agriculture in the artist’s county or Georgia and 2) artistic merit.

Students may enter any contest in the county in which they live or attend school, but not in both counties. To enter any of the contests, students must contact their county farm office to obtain an official entry form and complete the contest rules.

Contact your county Farm Bureau for the February application deadline. County Farm Bureaus must submit their applications to the Georgia Farm Bureau for the state competition by March 10. Entries are limited to one person in both contests. Multiple entries will be disqualified. Previous state winners are not eligible for any of the contests.

All artwork submitted for both contests must be original and upon submission become the property of the Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB). GFB may use artwork from both contests on various products distributed or sold by the organization to promote agriculture.

According to UGA’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, agriculture contributed $69.4 billion to Georgia’s economy in 2020, beyond the cultivation of crops and the jobs agriculture creates to harvest, process and transport those crops.
