Focus Group North West Derry UFU

UFU NW Derry The group showed their support to the group of cycling farmers, most of whom were members of the NW Derry Group, as well as senior agent Brian Prow. A group of 20 like-minded farmers and people associated with the industry from Limewater and the surrounding area, took part in the charity cycle of the length of Ireland, non-stop from Mullin to Mizen, which is approximately 355 miles. On the 17th and 18th of June they succeeded and raised an incredible £38,124 for four great charities that are close to the hearts of the cyclists taking part. The chosen charities were Air Ambulance NI, Children’s Heartbeat Trust, Farm Safety Foundation and Marie Curie.

November saw the return of Londonderry UFU’s Dinner Dances, a fantastic evening enjoyed by all at Drenagh Estate, Limavady. The event was a great success, 172 people attended. It was also a great opportunity to invite four charities from the Bicycle Farmers event to allow participants to hand over a check for the final amount.

In addition, the first meeting of the UFU NW Derry Winter Program took place in November. John Egerton, from Lisnowe Farm, County Fermanagh, made the long journey to Roe Park Resort in Limavady for what proved to be an extremely informative evening. John is driven by his desire to farm profitably while preserving the environment, as well as providing a viable future for his three sons at home on the farm. John is a demonstration technology farm for his pet food business, he is one of seven farmers involved in the ARCZero project and, with continuity in mind, his sons run a flock of sheep and a Blade Farming scheme with ABP. An enjoyable evening was had by all and the group are grateful to John for making the trip.
