Cold but productive week for Missouri farmers
Missouri farmers made good progress in harvesting and planting last week. The USDA says that on average, just over 5 days were available for field work with below normal precipitation, but conditions were cold, with the statewide average temperature failing to freeze.
As of Sunday, 96 percent of Missouri’s corn crop is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 94 percent, and 95 percent of soybeans are harvested, compared to 88 percent on average.
97% of winter wheat is planted, compared to 89% usual in late November, and 83% emerged, compared to 74% on average, with 58% of the crop in good to excellent shape, up 4 % per week.
97% of the cotton crop is harvested, compared to the normal rate of 92%.
Only 14 percent of Missouri pastures are in good condition, down 3 percent from last week, while 60 percent are rated poor to very poor, up 5 percent from a week ago.
The USDA’s next crop production update will appear on December 9th.
