Black Panther: Wakanda Forever grosses nearly $550 million worldwide

Disney/Marvel Studios Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as expected, topped the weekend box office with a projected $67.3 million in ticket sales. In addition to another $69.8 million in international revenue, the 2018 sequel to the original, directed by Ryan Coogler Black Panther is fast approaching $550 million worldwide after more than 10 days of release. The amount includes $4.5 million in Imax revenue, which reportedly boosted the exhibitor’s total to $21.4 million

The film is expected to have another strong North American Thanksgiving weekend, while international ticket sales may be dampened by the start of the quadrennial FIFA World Cup, which begins today (November 20) through December 18 in Qatar . Wakanda forever projected to bring in around $800 million in worldwide ticket sales – down about 44% Black Panther US$1.38 billion worldwide.

Horror comedy from Searchlight Pictures Menu sold about $9 million in tickets in its debut and finished in No. 2, narrowly beating out the Fathom Events/Angel Studios cult special The Chosen: Season 3, which brought in about $8.2 million in ticket sales.

The debut surpassed last year’s Christmas with the chosen ones: Messengers, which placed 4th in its opening weekend on December 1, 2021.

“After the overwhelming response Chosen fans – and now Wingfeather Saga fans at a packed theatrical event in Nashville last week – we see that the same audience that helped us break streaming records can have the same effect at the box office,” said Neil Harmon, CEO of Angel Studios, in a statement.

Finally, Universal Pictures’ critically acclaimed #MeToo drama, she said grossed a staggering $2.2 million in its opening weekend on a stated production budget of $30 million. The film, starring Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan, based on The New York Times’ investigation into former Hollywood producer and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein, is expected to be a contender for next year’s industry awards.
