The US Navy has received the latest next-generation amphibious ships

The US Navy received its next generation amphibious landing craft (LCAC 106) to support the logistical support of weapons, cargo, and personnel from ship to shore and through naval territories.

The handover of LCAC 106 followed the hovercraft’s sea trials under the direction of the Navy Inspection and Review Board, which evaluated its readiness and performance.

“We are very excited to deliver this next-generation ship to the Navy and Marine Corps team,” Capt. Jason Grabel. said.

“LCACs provide our fleet and partners with the speed and maneuverability necessary for our missions.”

According to the service, the newly commissioned LCACs were designed with identical dimensions, clearances and configurations to the legacy LCAC units.

This approach allows the next-generation LCAC fleet to interoperate with existing deck-equipped amphibious ships.

The U.S. Navy said industry partner Textron Systems will build 11 units for the LCAC program.

Before the last delivery, the company transferred LCAC 103and then LCAC 104 and LCAC 105 earlier this year.

The first class LCAC, LCAC 101and LCAC 102 were delivered between 2020 and 2021 and are now in operation.
