Fly more and pay less

After the first launch in the UK and Europe in 2020, with the airline compensating almost 5,000 London to Hong Kong flights for 10 days last year, Cathay Pacific launched its first Green Friday promotion in Southeast Asia. Since then, the airline has decided to make this an annual event with incredible discounts and a useful contribution to the protection of the environment.

Giving everyone a chance to go green

Another incentive for everyone at no extra cost is this flagship is offering a free carbon offset on all flights booked during the Green Friday sale period. The carbon offset will be made through the airline’s Fly Greener program, which has offset more than 27,280 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2021, including 7,320 tonnes from last year’s Green Friday sale.

Cash from carbon offsets will go directly to fund third-party but proven gold-standard projects that are currently benefiting local communities in developing countries. With a world that is now primarily open to international of air travel, Cathay Pacific hopes that more flights will be booked during the discounted period so that even more tonnes of carbon emissions can be offset.

Commenting on the Fly Greener program, Vishnu Rajendran, Regional Manager Middle East one world airline member of the alliance, said:

“Through the Cathay Pacific Fly Greener program, we enable our customers to fly greener by inviting them to offset the carbon emissions of their flight. We hope this, along with our Green Friday promotion, will encourage more people to join us in the effort. to mitigate our impact on climate change. This is also the time when they can plan their trip with the best travel deals.”

Bottom line

With round-trip economy class tickets from San Francisco to Hong Kong from $804 and a base price from $1,546 in Premium Economy Los Angeles to Manila passengers won’t want to miss Cathay Pacific’s Green Friday Sale. And the thought of flying at a lower cost, while bringing a small role to the environment, is definitely the cherry on top for both the airline and its passengers.
