Wisconsin lost 300 farms in 2021
The trend to have fewer farms continued in Wisconsin last year. The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says the state had 64,100 farms, down from 300 by 2020.
The USDA says the amount of farmland was 14.2 million acres in 2021, which is about 100,000 acres less than in 2020. The report says there are still many more small and medium-sized farms in Wisconsin with sales below $ 100,000. and less than three thousand acres, but there are still 200 farms with sales of over 500 thousand dollars and over 745 acres. The average farm size last year was 222 acres.
