Why is easyJet going to cancel flights to Italy this weekend?

EasyJet announced that there could be travel disruption for some customers this weekend after air traffic controllers in Italy went on strike. The withdrawal will last for 24 hours starting on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Strikes of Italy will affect 200 flights in destinations including Rome and Milanwith the state-owned airline ITA confirming that 13 direct flights between London and Italian destinations were cancelled. Strikes very similar to those that will happen again RMT in the UK, based around a payment dispute.
“We have been informed of a national strike in Italy on Friday 21 October which will affect air traffic control and ground handling services. Like most airlines flying to and from Italy, we may experience some disruption to our flight schedule in this day, ”said in a statement of the easyJet company on this matter.
“We advise customers traveling to, from or within Italy on Friday 21 October to allow extra time for travel to and from the airport and to check the status of their flights on our flight tracker,” they continued, while the airline has yet to confirm all flights affected by the wave of protests in Italy.

EasyJet told customers that they were working to ensure that anyone affected by the protests in Italy was rescheduled and given advance notice. As mentioned in their statement, they also advised travelers to check the status of their flights at easyJet flight tracking.
easyJet also recommends rescheduling your booking to a later time/date free of charge or requesting a refund on Booking management section on the top panel of Art easyJet website. Other airlines will inform their customers if their flights are canceled before the scheduled departure date by email or SMS.
