June 16th (UPI)- The· Washington Wizards Head coach announced on Wednesday Scott Brooks General manager Tommy Sheppard will not return to the team next season, saying it is his decision not to renew Brooks’ contract.
“It’s something from a personal point of view that was very, very difficult,” Shepherd said. Told reporters.. “Scottie is probably one of the best people I’ve ever worked with in my life … my dear best friend, but in this business, unless it’s about the consequences of moving forward and the ability to improve. No, and I made the decision. Do this.
“I can’t say it didn’t work. I think it’s time to move on.”
According to the two sides, they could not reach an agreement on the new contract. ESPN, Leads Wizards’ decision to move from Brooks.
Wizards star Bradley Beal And Russell Westbrook The team has approved Brooks to be brought back after losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Westbrook reunited with Oklahoma City coach Brooks this season.
“I take that all into account,” Shepherd said when asked about Brooks’ support from Beer and Westbrook. “I had a thorough conversation with everyone in the organization. I know how people feel. I know how I feel.
“This is the entertainment world, not the entertainment world, and what we have to do as an organization is to continue doing whatever it takes to achieve a sustainable victory.”
Brooks helped lead Washington (34-38) to the postseason for the first time in three seasons. The Wizards entered the NBA Play-in Tournament and eventually won the eighth seed before the 76ers eliminated them.
In five seasons with Wizards, Brooks edited 183-207 records in three playoff appearances, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the 2016-17 campaign.
Wizards begins a search for coaching, trying to understand the future of beer as it enters the final year of its contract next season. Shepherd said the team’s search was “very thorough and very robust” and included “a very diverse and inclusive group of people.”
The NBA currently has six head coach openings in Boston, Indiana, New Orleans, Orlando, Portland and Washington.
