Walmart will hire about 40,000 seasonal workers this year, compared to the 150,000 that were hired during last year’s big retail sales.
The move may reflect a slowdown in consumer shopping amid higher prices at the grocery store as well as living expenses like utilities, the Wall Street Journal reported the report.
The news comes after a report claimed that a large number of consumers, 73%, pay closer attention to how much they are spending on gifts this year compared to last year, with 73% expecting prices to rise before the holiday season.
After all, the United States increased retail turnover by 0.3% in August, with consumers spending more on clothing, vehicles and groceries.
