1988 MGM drama Chocolate war will be released on Blu-ray on September 27th as part of MVD Entertainment Group’s MVD Rewind Collection.

Based on Robert Cormier’s controversial novel — once the most banned book in America — this allegory of abuse of power takes place at a Catholic boys’ school where selling chocolate turns into a war on conformity. Jerry (Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Amazing science) is a student who refuses to participate in undermining the ambitious school administrator Brother Leon (John Glover, Scrooge). Leon secretly recruits Archie (Wallace Langham, voiced by Wally Ward, Ford vs. Ferrari) — the sadistic mastermind of the school gang — to get Jerry to fall in line. But the motives and results are much more complex than they appear at first glance.

chocolate war – with a 1980s soundtrack featuring music by Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Joan Armatrading and Yaz — also starring Adam Baldwin (Full metal jacket) Doug Hutchison (The green mile) Jenny Wright (St. Elmo’s Fire) and Bad Court (Harold and Maud).
