Tennessee Crops: 49% soybeans and 59% cotton good to excellent

Scattered rain continued to help some crop conditions improve in Tennessee.

Soybeans are rated 49% good to excellent with 92% flowering and 70% set pods. The cotton is rated 59% good to excellent, 98% cotton is square, 82% hardens and 1% opens. Corn is rated 33% good to excellent, with 87% in the dough stage and 44% spoiled. Tobacco is 90% and 44% is rated good to excellent.

Pastures are rated 47% good to excellent, and while conditions have improved, many livestock producers are still concerned about hay production and availability. Armyworms have started to appear in hay fields, and some producers have used pesticides to control them as the weather permits. Soil moisture is adequate at 88%.
