SEO tools from Google and Bing

Knowing how search engines interact with your site is crucial to organic rankings. Scanner activity shows detected web pages, links available for navigation, available code and more.

Many commercial tools emulate the behavior of search engines. But none surpasses the data directly from the search engines themselves: the Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Both tools are needed for search engine optimization. They are free and easy to connect to your site.

Google Search Console

Search Console has many useful reports for both beginners and experienced SEO. The tool complements basic search information with features of how the Google bot interacted with the site.

To get started, verify your site with the Search Console by connecting it to a Google Analytics account or using plugin.

The Search Console reveals pages indexed by Google and provides helpful tips for improving other metrics, such as click rates, page speed and more. The platform too shows keywords what users are looking for to find your site.

I. listed last month six critical Search Console reports. But there are other valuable sections.

  • The “Improvements” tab addresses yours rich fragments and whether Google used them. The section shows only those fragments for which you are qualitative. For example, you will not see “Product” in this section unless you have applied “product” markup on your site (using Schema.org or similar).
  • “Delete” allows site owners to request the removal of any URL from the Google index.
  • International Targeting (Deprecated Tools and Reports> International Targeting) allows site owners to determine the country for ranking.
  • “Change of address” (Settings> Change address) warns Google about future domain name changes to mitigate the effects.

The “Improvements” section of the Search Console looks at your rich snippets and whether Google has used them.

Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing Webmaster Tools provides useful (and free) SEO tools. Bing provides an easy way to import your data from the Google Search Console into a Webmaster Tools account. The check is almost instantaneous. In my experience, filling out all the reports can take up to 48 hours.

The appearance of Webmaster Tools is similar to the Search Console. Site performance reports include search queries and clicks. Other reports show crawl errors and validation results of any URL to ensure that search engines can access and index it.

For indexed URLs, Bing offers an improvement report with optimization tips and missing items.

“Site Explorer”, another useful feature, provides an overview of the structure of your site and a detailed overview of each section or URL. In essence, this is a free scanner to see how a search bot can interpret your site and its hierarchy. Site Explorer shows crawl errors, page size, and header response, as well as errors in Robots.txt that prevent crawls.

Site Explorer provides an overview of the structure of your site and a detailed overview of each section or URL. In fact, it is a free scanner.

The Keyword Research Toolkit for Webmasters can uncover new opportunities for keywords and competitors. Click on any word or phrase in the list to see:

  • Related keywords
  • “Question Keywords” in question format to include in your copy,
  • Recently discovered and popular keywords.

The Webmaster Tool Keyword Research report reveals new opportunities for keywords and competitors, among other benefits.

Unlike the Search Console, Webmaster Tools does not evaluate the security of your site. But it discloses the status of copyright infringement claims when a verified owner has filed a Bing copyright notice against another site. This is an example of how two tools complement each other.

The Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools can help site owners improve organic traffic. Both provide information about their own search engine. However, each offers different angles, making it a good idea to use them simultaneously.
