After rising prices, which has been at the center of controversy and protests across Cyprus in recent weeks, potato growers said Thursday they will also take action if the state does not intervene to support them.
A day after the shock, potato growers said the increase in production and export costs added to the already significant damage caused by the extreme weather conditions on the island during the winter months.
“We can’t make ends meet,” Andreas Carias, president of the Pan-Cyprus Potato Growers’ Organization, told Cyprus Mail. As for exports, which he said account for about 80 percent of all potato production on the island, he said the potential price increase would lead to the cancellation of orders from other countries.
