Pakistan’s largest lender, Habib Bank Ltd., will adopt the new platform after months of customer complaints about frequent outages.
The Karachi-based lender will connect its more than 25 million customers to Temenos ’core banking platform, HBL said in a statement on Friday, citing increased reliability and security as benefits. In January, HBL announced a new chief technology officer, Michael Mayer.
Local media reported on technical glitches from last year that affected the bank’s website and mobile app, making it impossible to complete transactions, including withdrawals and transfers. The decision also follows from the growing focus on online services; The country’s banking regulator is seeking to boost competition by licensing digital banks, Governor Reza Bakir said last year.
