Anthony Vineyards plans to harvest organic red in Coachella until June 26th and will begin production in Irvine, the southernmost San Joaquin Valley district, in the week of June 21st. We grow several new varieties that will mature later, such as Sweet Gloves and Autumn King.
“We plan to harvest green vines in Coachella until July 8th or 9th, and after July 4th we plan to start with Sugranoes in Irvine,” Harley said.
There is a smooth transition, but Harley states that the volume drops a bit during the transition from Coachella to San Joaquin. “We are currently in the promotion period and are planning another campaign for organic grapes around mid-July.”
“Mother Nature always has a say in these predicted start and end times, and the amount produced,” he said. In the San Joaquin Valley, temperatures were 108 in early June. With several days to reach degrees, the Cochera Valley predicts that the weekly highs of June 21 will be 114 or 115 degrees Celsius. Many days early.
High temperatures in the San Joaquin Valley can reduce yields a bit, but Harley doesn’t think it makes a big difference. “We grow very good crops in the valley. It’s not a record, but it should yield above average.”
Michael DuPuis of Divine Flavor says that organically grown raw grapes from Mexico are also growing steadily without any problems. “We are in the middle of this season,” he said. “We have finished the early varieties and are moving to our” candy “line. DuPuis estimates that Divine Flavor accounts for approximately 70% of the organic products shipped from Sonora to the United States during the season. “We have about 20 different commercial varieties … both organic and traditional varieties,” he said.
This year’s production was a bit different, as the Divine flavors were higher than normal in May. Volume has appeared a bit late in the last few years, but this season it hasn’t. “In May, we were able to harvest very strong organic crops of exceptional quality,” says DuPuis.
Overall, he expects Mexico to send fewer boxes to the United States than has exceeded a total of 20 million cartons in the last few years. “May got off to a very good start. Volumes are expected to decline towards the end of June,” he said.
Divine Flavor has several new late varieties that are in further production, such as Sweet Celebration, Autumn Crisp, Jellyberry and Cotton Candy. He said the Valley of California begins with an early variety that is different from the variety that Mexico ends the season.
