New airline Canada Jetlines begins commercial operations

Low-cost carrier Canada Jetlines (ZhETMF) began commercial operations on September 22, 2022 with the first flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Calgary International Airport (YYC).

“Canada Jetlines (ZhETMF) are excited to offer our inaugural day service from our travel hub in Toronto to the vibrant city of Calgary,” said Eddie Doyle, CEO of Canada Jetlines (ZhETMF).

“With a focus on leisure travel, we chose Calgary as our first destination because of its dynamic tourism opportunities, extensive natural splendor and reach for a key segment of Canadians,” added Doyle.

The carrier originally planned to launch in the spring of 2022, but licensing issues pushed the launch date to August 15 and then August 29, 2022.

The airline received its final licenses on August 23, 2022.

Canada Jetlines (ZhETMF) was founded in 2013. Since then, the carrier has experienced near-constant management changes and struggled to get off the ground. Historically, the airline was established to provide premium service to destinations in the US, the Caribbean and Mexico.

By choosing the Airbus A320 as its standard fleet, Canada Jetlines (ZhETMF) received its first A320 from Irish lessor Jackson Square Aviation in December 2021. The A320-200, registered as C-GCJL, is 12.7 years old.

The airline expects to further expand its fleet and operate a total of 15 aircraft by 2025.
