Sikorski, Lockheed Martin Co., and Boeing named Honeywell a supplier of engines for DEFIANT Xan advanced helicopter for the U.S. Army Competition for Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA).
The U.S. Army initiated FLRAA in 2019 to develop a new municipal helicopter that will replace the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk starting in 2030.

When providing Honeywell Turbocharged HTS7500 engineTeam DEFIANT brings the experience of army aviation to FLRAA, integrating with older platforms and existing infrastructure.
The HTS7500 turbocharged engine is the latest and most technologically advanced model in the Honeywell family of military engines, which includes the T55 engine, which has provided the H-47 engine for more than 60 years. Like the T55, the HTS7500 is designed to thrive in harsh environments. The HTS7500 exceeds power and fuel consumption requirements.
The DEFIANT X, equipped with a pair of HTS7500 engines, can fly 2 times faster and farther than the Black Hawk, and is currently being tested in a digital combat environment where it continues to prove itself to meet mission requirements.
The new engine is equipped with an upgraded control system that provides a very secure flow of engine data. The control system improves performance, reduces life cycle costs and ensures engine health through a digital roadmap of flows.
“This engine is based on the battle-tested T55 architecture,” said Dave Marinik, president of Honeywell Aerospace’s engine and power systems division. “The engine is structurally similar, which is great for maintenance in the field because they can use modern tools and training. However, in terms of performance, the HTS7500 is 42% more powerful than the T55-GA-714A, and has the lowest overall weight compared to other engines in its horsepower class. ”

Together, Sikorski and Boeing built 90% of the current U.S. Army military helicopters and purchased more than 15 million flight hours. Sikorsky-Boeing presented the DEFIANT X proposal for the US Army FLRAA in September 2021. The contract is expected to be signed this year.
