After being virtually allowed to meet last year, rice farmers put their boots on the ground at this year’s rice field day, June 30th, at LSU AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station near Crawley. I can.
As usual, the program begins with a field tour from 7:15 am to 9 am, with poster sessions and trade shows in parallel.
The topics discussed are:
— Rice Sustainability and Agricultural Research
— Hybrid rice and special rice breeding
— Rice breeding and marker-supported breeding
— Rice weed science and pathology
— Rice entomology
The indoor program will begin at 10:30 am, featuring updates from US industry and government officials.
Speakers include Richard Fonteno, chair of the US Research Commission for Louisiana. Dr. Mike Strain, Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Louisiana. Jim Harper, President of the Louisiana Agricultural Bureau. And Betsy Ward, CEO of the American Federation of America.
Guest speaker is Kevin Norton, a former Deputy Chief of the US Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Other speakers include Bill Richardson, Vice President of Agriculture at LSU AgCenter, and Mike Salassi, Vice President of Plant, Soil, Water, and Animal Science at LSU AgCenter.
Field Day concludes with a Luisiana rice lunch.
