Lower milk futures, mixed cash dairy

Milk futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange closed lower on Friday, following the direction of most commodities pressured by rising interest rates. Cash markets were mixed as rising cheese stocks are offset by rising demand.

October Grade III milk was down 56 cents at $20.90. November fell 57 cents to $20.70. December fell 75 cents to $20.43. January fell 58 cents to $20.39. February to April contracts 10 to 51 cents lower.

Dry whey up $0.01 to $0.45. Only one sale was made at that price.

Lock $0.04 to $1.96. Only one sale was made at that price.

Barrels were down $0.0050 at $2.1850. Three sales were made at $2.1850 and $2.19.

Increase $0.0025 to $3.1325. Only one sale was made at that price.

Skim milk powder rose $0.02 to $1.58. Two sales were made at $1.58 and $1.5825.
