London Marathon 2023: How to vote and how much it costs

But for those wondering how to take part in the London Marathon, there’s a little more to the process than simply donning a numbered armband and joining the crowd of runners.

London Marathon the organizers open the ballot every year for those who want to participate to apply and, like a lottery, wait for them to become one of the lucky ones, one step closer to the starting line.

But fear not for those who missed out on voting the first time – there is always a second chance or other options to participate in the vote. London Marathon 2023.

To prevent London from being overrun with novice athletes, the organizers of the London Marathon have limited the number of people taking part in the public race.

For this and in the spirit of fairness, the organizers hold an annual vote, which usually takes place on the first of the month when the London Marathon takes place – in this case in October.

About 17,000 people are selected from this ballot, and the rest are put into a second round of voting with 2,000 additional seats.

Are there any requirements to enter the London Marathon ballot?

Unlike a professional event, which requires the demonstration of a set of sporting achievements, London Marathon public event does not require admission.

However, if successful in voting, an entry fee is charged; for UK residents it costs £49.99, while for international members the cost is £99 with an additional £26 compensation fee.

What happens if I am not selected from the London Marathon ballot?

If you’re feeling particularly charitable and want to donate your entry fee, if you can’t make a donation the first time, you’ll automatically be entered into a second ballot – with an additional 2,000 places available.

Otherwise, if you are not selected in the second round of voting, the organizers of the London Marathon will give you:

  • premium winter top (RRP £70)
  • a chance to win one of three pairs of entries to one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, including accommodation and flights
  • a big thank you as your donation will help London Marathon Charity Fund to make a difference and inspire action across the UK

When does voting open for the 2023 London Marathon?

Voting for the 2023 London Marathon will open on Saturday 1 October and will continue until Friday 7 October.

The results will be announced at the end of October 2022.

You can submit a ballot by visiting Art Application to vote in the London Marathon on the event website, but remember you can only enter the ballot once.

Are there other ways to take part in the 2023 London Marathon?

If trying to get a place through the official ballot fails, the London Marathon will distribute a certain number of entries to charities across the country.

A a complete list of charities with London Marathon 2023 places available on the event website, so if you find a cause you’re passionate about, you should contact them directly and express your interest in representing them at next year’s event.

The London Marathon Trust also has fundraising tips in the event that you successfully represent your chosen charity.

When is the London Marathon 2022?

The TCS London Marathon 2022 will take place on Sunday, October 2, starting waves will take place from 8.50am (men’s and women’s wheelchair races), 9.00am (women’s) and 9.40am (men’s and mass start).
