Local FSA offices are facing staff shortages
Local Farm Service Agency offices are facing staff shortages.
Minnesota FSA Director Whitney Place tells Brownfield that one of the reasons is retirement.
“It simply came to our notice then. At the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, this has been a huge problem for us as well. We need to bring the next generation of labor to these agricultural jobs. ”
She says the USDA allows FSA executives “a lot of leeway” to be creative when it comes to attracting and retaining talent in local offices.
“I know that at the county office, many of these positions are at home. But I’m really open to the pandemic, now that we’ve been through the pandemic, the work-from-home options and all the benefits we can offer to attract that talent to our agency. “
Place was recently named executive director of the Minnesota FSA after serving as assistant commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
