PRINCETON, Ky. — When you’re shopping for Thanksgiving, many shopping lists will have the word turkey at the top. As the centerpiece of a traditional feast, the bird is often the star of the show.
Kentucky Soybean Council Farmer Leaders remind you that livestock and poultry (including turkeys!) are our number one customer for protein-rich soybean meal. Poultry production is big business here in the Commonwealth and we are happy to supply this feed ingredient to farmers raising layers, broilers and turkeys for your enjoyment.
If you’re a family that celebrates ham or beef, we’ve got that for you, too. Pigs and beef cattle also commonly consume high-protein soybean meal as part of their feed rations.
The main dish isn’t the only place you’ll find soy ingredients this holiday season. Soybean oil, commonly referred to as vegetable oil on store shelves, is the number one oil used for frying in the United States. Using soybean oil means that the flavor profile of the food being fried is not affected. Vegetable oil is also common in many baking recipes.
Just as we thank the people who cook our favorite holiday meals, we also pause to thank the Kentucky farm families who grow them and the consumers who trust us with safe, nutritious and affordable food this holiday season and throughout year.
