Iridium announces Operation Pacific Waves.

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: IRDM) announced Operation Pacific Waves (OPW), a series of partnered field exercises involving more than 20 organizations. With a focus on the Indo-Pacific region, OPW will deploy Iridium and Iridium Connected equipment in real-world scenarios, highlighting Iridium’s real-time and truly global network capabilities.

Various Iridium SATCOM field demonstrations will be conducted in coordination with an international contingent of organizations, including Iridium partners and existing customers such as the US Department of Defense, coalition partners and research organizations. The event will be held from Wednesday, September 28 to Friday, September 30, 2022.

OPW focuses on the operational needs of communication beyond line of sight (BLOS) and commanding missions in the wide area of responsibility (AOR). It will highlight capabilities that directly support the Indo-Pacific mission sets provided by the Iridium Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services (EMSS) contract with the United States Government (USG). The EMSS contract provides unlimited broadband subscribers and usage through a secure USG gateway.

Among the innovative technologies and capabilities presented are: Iridium Certus broadband and medium bandwidth; Push-To-Talk (PTT); a variety of automatic sensors capable of tracking, environmental monitoring, remote control functions and data management and image delivery; and the Iridium Global Line of Sight service, which provides truly global, real-time command and control (C2) for drones and autonomous vehicles.

It will also highlight automotive solutions and advanced capabilities such as L-band 1080 HD real-time video, telemedicine, search and rescue, and developing and maintaining a common operational picture for military, civilian and non-governmental organizations. applications.

As part of the operation, multiple streams of real-time voice, data and video will be developed both at a stop and in motion. With a focus on the Indo-Pacific, major themes will represent Australia, Hawaii, the Philippines and Japan, with some reaching out to South Africa, Alaska and Antarctica. Additional topics will be created with various sites in the United States and Canada, including Virginia, Arizona, Colorado, Ontario and others, showing the overall picture of operations (COP) in real time from all corners of the Earth.

“With more than half of the world’s population, nearly two-thirds of the world’s economy and some of the world’s largest armed forces, the importance of the Indo-Pacific cannot be understated,” said Scott Scheimreif, Executive Vice President government programs, Iridium.

“It was a natural step to build on the success of Operation Arctic Lynx by deploying Iridium technology in the Indo-Pacific region to demonstrate the power of the Iridium network in providing real-time interoperability, on-the-go communications, command and… control, and developing and maintaining a common operational picture in a wide area of responsibility. We are especially proud to have new and existing partners who want to get involved.”

Iridium partners and participating companies include: 4k Solutions, Aireon, Ansur Technologies AS, AssetLink Global LLC, Audio Video Intelligence Corporation, A2G International, Blue Sky Network, Bryodyne Technologies LLC, Everywhere Communications, Geoforce, Honeywell, Icom America Inc., Kaigai , McQ Inc., NAL Research, Navicom, Satcom Direct, Satelles, Somewear Labs, Swoop Analytics, and Thales Defense and Security Inc.

The Iridium network provides low-latency satellite connectivity through small form factor equipment, making it ideal for applications that require mobility. Its L-band spectrum provides a weather-resistant and highly reliable signal, helping to ensure the transmission of mission-critical communications to combatant command and its subordinate component commands. Iridium and Iridium-connected devices play an important role in the Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Contingency (PACE) and Joint Domain-Wide Command and Control (JADC2) SATCOM architectures.
