Former Bank of Qinghai Chairman Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for Bribery and Abuse of Power




The former chairman of a leading Chinese regional lender has received a significant prison term on charges of bribery.

On February 17, Haidong Municipal Central People’s Court sentenced Wang Li (王丽), a former chairman of the Qinghai Bank and a former deputy chief financial officer of Qinghai Province, to 18 years in prison.

Wang was found guilty of crimes including corruption, bribery, misappropriation of state funds, abuse of power as the head of a state-owned enterprise and possession of huge sums of assets, the sources of which are unknown.

In addition to 18 years in prison, Wang also received a fine of 1.1 million yuan.
