Last update

Finland has become the last European country to abolish testing requirements for fully vaccinated tourists. Finland has been one of the most limited countries in Europe since the pandemic, and they have often closed the border to non-citizens since March 2020.

However, the new entry requirements, starting on February 14, make it easier for tourists from the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada to enter the country.

Non-European tourists can now enter Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland without worrying about testing if they are fully vaccinated.

New admission requirements

There are currently no restrictions when entering Finland if you are coming from an EU Member State or the Schengen area.

Finland has included various non-EU countries in the green list, without any restrictions. These nations include:

  • Bahrain
  • Colombia
  • Chile
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • Kuwait
  • Macau
  • New Zealand
  • Peru
  • Qatar
  • Rwanda
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Uruguay

Fully vaccinated tourists from all non-EU countries that are not on the green list –including Australia, Canada, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States – may enter Finland without testing if they meet the following requirements.

  • They have a certificate of complete and valid vaccination at least 7 days before the trip to Finland. Many countries require / still require all travelers to wait 14 days after the last dose before traveling. Finland, however, makes a choice only 7 days.
  • They have a certificate stating that they were completely cured of COVID-19 and received a single dose of the vaccine.
  • They have an EU digital certificate for COVID, which certifies that the person has been cured of COVID-19 in the last 6 months.

If unvaccinated tourists from outside Europe who are not traveling from a green list country have been cured of COVID-19 but have not yet received a single dose of vaccine and do not have an EU digital certificate for COVID, Finland classifies them as unvaccinated.

Currently unvaccinated travelers forbidden from Finland, unless they apply for the required entry or for compassionate entry. This does not include travel purposes.

The Government of Finland states that all travelers entering Finland are still connected Infectious Diseases Act.

The current situation with COVID-19 in Finland

Finland now has the highest COVID-19 case since the pandemic. The current average is a 7-day case 7 869; this is a significant increase from 875 in November 2021.

However, Finland kept COVID-19 cases low throughout the pandemic. This is due to their low population density and strict border measures. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,170 deaths have been recorded in Finland.

Finland is fully vaccinated 76% total population since 2021 after the introduction of 11.4 million doses of the vaccine.

Current internal restrictions on COVID-19 in Finland

Although Finland has lowered entry restrictions due to COVID-19, domestic restrictions still apply. The Finnish authorities recommend that all people over the age of 12 wear face masks on public transport and in public indoors. They recommend it to fully vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

Travelers are free to travel around Finland without restrictions. Although there are some restrictions on the opening hours of bars, cafes and restaurants in certain areas. The Finnish government also has restrictions on large-scale events and crowds.

You can check Helsinki city website for more information on restrictions in the Finnish capital.

The discovery of Europe

Europe imposed various restrictions on COVID-19 when the Omicron variant appeared. Unfortunately, this severely damaged travel in Europe in late 2021.

However, various European countries have now stopped testing on COVID-19 for vaccinated travelers. These countries include the United Kingdom, France, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

The European summer looks very promising after two years of disappointment.
