Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Elvis debuted at No. 1 on NPD’s VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales, and on the special Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week ending September 17.
Director Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, which earned $150.8 million domestically, was one of four newcomers to break into the top 10 best-selling discs.
Third place in both charts was taken by Sony Pictures. Where Crawdad sings, an adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name about an abandoned girl living in the woods. It earned $89.2 million from US theaters.
#4 on both charts was Disney A light year, from Pixar Animation Studios. The film is a spinoff of the Toy Story franchise, which is said to be the worldwide film that inspired Buzz Lightyear to create the toy line. It earned $118.3 million at the domestic box office.
Last week’s top seller, Universal’s animated sequel Minions: The Rise of Gru, dropped to No. 2 on both charts. Another universal release, Jurassic World Dominiondropped three spots to #5 on both charts.
Sony Pictures becomes the fourth newcomer to enter the top 10 on the overall disc sales chart Cobra Kai: Season 4, the latest DVD release with the Karate Kid spin-off streaming on Netflix. The fifth season was just released on September 9th on Netflix. It was a DVD-only release, so it didn’t chart on Blu-ray.
The News Media Play the rental schedule for the week ending September 18 was also Elvis in first place Minions: The Rise of Gru in No. 2, and Where the Crawdads sing under number 3.
Jurassic World Dominion was #4 at the box office with another Universal release, Black phoneunder number 5.
