May 20 (UPI) – Doja Cat announced on Friday on social media that it will no longer perform at festivals and will not open The Weeknd on his tour this summer due to tonsil surgery.

“Hi guys. I wanted you to hear it from me first,” she said wrote in her Instagram Story. “Unfortunately, I need to have tonsil surgery as soon as possible. The surgery is normal, but recovery will be delayed for a while due to swelling. That means I have to cancel the festival this summer as well as tour The Weeknd.

“I feel awful about it, but I can’t wait for it to heal and come back to making music and creating an experience for you.”

On Thursday Doja Cat wrote on Twitter told fans in detail about her procedure and warned that she “may soon have bad news for everyone.” She said her tonsils became infected before being awarded the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

“The doctor just had to cut my left tonsil. I had an abscess. All my throat [expletive]”- She wrote in part. “… My tonsils became infected before I took the BBMA [expletive] antibiotics, but forgot I took them and then drank wine and smoked all day.

“It simply came to our notice then [expletive] growth on my tonsils so they had to do surgery on it [Thursday]».

In March, The Weeknd announced that Doja Cat would join his After Hours tour Til Dawn as a special guest. The tour starts on July 8 in Toronto and ends on September 2 in Los Angeles.

In addition to this tour, Doja Cat was scheduled to appear at several summer music festivals, including scheduled for Saturday at the Hangouts Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She was also in line for the Glastonbury Festival in the UK on 22 June. Doja Cat cancels summer tour dates due to tonsil surgery
