Global AVOD revenue from series and movies will reach $91 billion in 2028, up from $38 billion in 2022, according to new data from Digital TV Research. The British firm says the top 10 countries will account for 81% of total global AVOD revenue by 2028 — led by Disney+ with $8.7 billion, Hulu with $5.3 billion and Netflix with $5 billion.
By 2028, 15 platforms will generate more than $1 billion in AVOD revenue, including six globally, five in the US and three in China.
“An exciting development will be the global rollout of AVOD-SVOD hybrid tiers across major platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO and Paramount+,” analyst Simon Murray said in a statement. “These four platforms will generate $22.6 billion in AVOD revenue by 2028 — or a quarter of the global total.”
