Cattle placements slightly above year-ago levels
USDA says cattle placements in U.S. feedlots in August were slightly above year-ago levels as cattle producers continue to face drought in some important U.S. feedlots. A total of 2.11 million heads were placed in August. The numbers are slightly above estimates prior to the report, and the August numbers were driven by higher light cattle placements.
Marketing for the month was 6% over last year. While the total number of cattle on feed in the US on September 1St slightly above last year and the second-highest September 1 inventory since the series began.
The report is generally neutral for the markets.
