Carnival Cruise Lines will join its competitors from March 1 termination of the mask mandate on all cruise lines. This came after the CDC eased its warnings for cruise ships late Friday.
The removal of the mask mandate comes after Disney World, Royal Caribbean Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NCLH.N) removed the mask mandate.
New requirements for masks
Carnival Cruise Lines said it encouraged guests to continue wearing masks, but would not comply. A statement from the company said: “However, there may be certain places and activities where masks will be needed.” However, they did not add any details to this.
Current requirements for passengers
Carnival Cruise Line says “vaccinated cruises” are available to guests who received the last dose of the approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before the voyage. The CDC requires pre-cruise testing for all vaccinated guests at least two days before the sailing date.
The company states: “If you set sail on Saturday, the test can be taken on Thursday and Friday, and even on Saturday if you are guaranteed to receive results in time for registration. On some voyages, guests must be prepared for the opportunity to take an additional COVID test before boarding, which will be provided at the terminal free of charge. ”
There are some exceptions vaccination standards according to the Carnival Cruise Line. The company says: “We will continue to manage the release process for a small number of guests who are not eligible for the vaccine.”
“Exclusions from the vaccine for Caribbean cruises will be limited to a very small number of children under 12, as well as adolescents and adults with a health condition who can give written confirmation from their doctor that they cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.”
Carnival Cruise Line has said it plans to offer more flexibility in pre-cruise testing requirements, and children under 5 will be exempt from vaccine or exemption requirements.
Guests over the age of two must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 and 24 hours after the voyage. Unvaccinated guests must also be tested for antigen at landing and re-tested within 24 hours of disembarking on all cruises lasting more than four days.
However, all unvaccinated guests will be charged a fee of $ 150 per person aboard the Sail & Sign. This will cover the cost of testing, reporting and health and safety inspections, reports Carnival Cruise Line.
Guests who have evidence of recovery from COVID-19 in the past 3 months should not take a COVID cruise test before departure if they have passed 10 days after COVID-19 infection, have no symptoms, and may present evidence of recovery from them. health care provider.
CDC Cruise Guide
The CDC has put all U.S. cruise ships in the COVID-19 high-risk category before Christmas after Omicron cases increased.
However, on Tuesday the CDC moved all cruise ships to level 3. Therefore, the CDC offers only travelers be aware of your vaccination requirements. The CDC continues to advise all travelers at increased risk of serious illness from COVID-19 to avoid cruising.
A CDC spokesman said: “Vaccination is still the best way to protect yourself from serious diseases, slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the number of new options.”
As cases of COVID-19 are declining worldwide, the use of masks is declining. However, airlines still require passengers to wear masks on all flights. As a result, all travelers must pack their masks in a suitcase or hand luggage before the trip.
We hope that face masks will become a story for travelers in 2022.
