Broadband connectivity among Minnesota Farm Bureau policy priorities

The Minnesota Farm Bureau has set legislative priorities for 2023.

Vice President Carolyn Olson, who farms near Cottonwood, said rural brownfield broadband connectivity, supporting research and development at land-grant universities and funding for the veterinary diagnostic lab came up during local discussions.

“To continue research for the prevention of animal diseases. As a pig farmer, this is something that is quite important to me and to our neighbors who also raise animals.”

In broadband, she says the Farm Bureau can encourage lawmakers to speed up implementation by sharing their stories.

“It’s important to share how much our tractors rely on cellular signal, for example. And if they don’t know, they don’t know how to fight for us either.”

Olson says other Farm Bureau priorities for the next legislative session include support for beginning farmers, health care affordability and further development of clean energy sources such as biofuels.
