Biotechnology corn increases and soybeans decrease in Indiana

East Lansing, Michigan — According to Nathanial Warenski, a USDANASS state statistician at the Indiana Field Office, the use of biotechnology varieties in corn in 2021 increased by 1 percentage point from last year. Biotechnology varieties accounted for 87% of the acres of corn planted in Indiana, up from 86% in 2020.

Indiana soybean planting included 91% of biotechnology varieties, down 2 percentage points year-on-year.

Nationally, 93% of this year’s corn acreage is planted with biotechnology seed varieties, up 1% from last year. Producers planted 95% of the 2021 soybean acreage in herbicide-tolerant seed varieties, an increase of 1 point from 2020.
